If there’s one type of food that this weather makes our family crave, it’s soup!

This book is absolutely crammed full of 200 gorgeous recipes. There are plenty of traditional soups through to quirky and different soups - pistachio soup anyone? 😋

The recipes are not over-complicated and very easy to follow. They don’t require weird and wonderful ingredients either.

Where to start after this week! ❄️ THANK YOU to every single one of you who braved the cold, snow and ice to get to us this week. We really appreciate it. As you can imagine it’s not been the busiest week we’ve ever had but it was amazing how many of you we did see. Plus, we have been SORTING!!

✅ All of our post-Christmas returns are done and ready to be picked up 🙌

✅ We did some serious cleaning. So much so that the vac blew up 😂

✅ We’ve done a bit of switching about in the shop. Biographies and crime have now swapped over so that when you’re looking at our 3 for £25 section, the crime section (all included in 3 for £25) is just behind you to make it easier.

✅ Subscriptions for January are all chosen and ready to go out next week.

The pavements around the centre of Holmfirth are now looking a lot better than they were and the warmer weather is on its way. We’re looking forward to getting back to normal. But until then, there’s nothing better than cosying up with a book. We’re open 9.30 until 4.30 today as normal so why not pop down 👋

It’s such a privilege to be able to read early r

It’s such a privilege to be able to read early reading copies of books but the hardest part is waiting to share the book with people! It’s felt like the loooongest wait (a whole year!) but for those of you who have been holding out for the paperback of The List of Suspicious Things, here it is!

It’s 1979 and Miv is convinced that her Dad wants to move her Down South; away from the dangers posed by the Yorkshire Ripper. Miv and her friend Sharon are sure that they can find him and set about creating a List of Suspicious Things. The list brings them to unexpected places and they become involved in the lives of others in a way they couldn’t have imagined and unearth secrets closer to home than they’d like.

This is a story of what it was like to be a family, and a young woman, in Yorkshire around that time and it has so many heartwarming and funny moments.

It has the perfect balance of humour and reflection on what many will remember as a frightening time of their lives.
