If you’ve been in the shop over the last few weeks you might have noticed this beautiful picture on our favourites shelf. It was part of one of the @holmfirthartweek fringe exhibitions. We’re so touched that our lovely customer Kath has created this and it is now in its forever home in the shop 💛

Honor has been into the shop today and we spent time going through the books that she loved from when we opened (she was only 5!) through to the present day. What an incredible reading journey she’s been on. She still reads from both the middle grade (approximately 9-12) and older sections happily. In fact one of her most recent reads is Death at the Museum which has only just been released. She often re-reads books like Lottie Brooks, Skandar and Wings of Fire as they are her all time favourites.

She does now also mix reading with listening to audiobooks too, particularly when school is busy and life is full on! She’s now happy to talk to people and recommend books in person 💛

We’re very excited to be welcoming Andy J. Pizza for an event on Thursday 13th Aug at 11am.

As with all our school holiday events, sign up for just £1pp 💛

Join author Andy J. Pizza for a special story time as he reads his new book, Mysterious Things, an entertaining story that encourages children to embrace curiosity and ask questions about the mysterious things all around them. Questions like:

What do dreams mean?

What is at the bottom of the ocean?

Where is that lost puzzle piece?

Following the reading, Andy will sign copies of Invisible Things and Mysterious Things. Children are also invited to enjoy a fun colouring and drawing activity inspired by the stories.

If you’re ready to begin unravelling these mysteries and more, grab your detective’s hat or slip into your lab coat and come along on an exciting journey to embrace the unknown!

This event is ideal for ages 5-8 but everyone is welcome to this relaxed family event.

One of the best things about the summer holidays i

One of the best things about the summer holidays is that our children get to spend more time in the shop. Arthur has been in this week and we talked about how lovely this book is. He would have loved it when he was younger. The pages flip open and you have hundreds of different possibilities for inventions. Hours of fun 🤩

It’s time for the July update for our Read Togethe

It’s time for the July update for our Read Together, Read for Pleasure project!

We were delighted to welcome 88 children along with lots of parents for a visit to the shop and the library 🙌

We had lots of stories, looked at all sorts of books and James even let some lucky children serve customers, much to their delight! 😍

There is nothing better than the slowly approaching sound of nearly a hundred children in their yellow vests excitedly walking down the hill to see us.

At the end of the visit, cars at the traffic lights kindly waited for a cycle of the lights to let them all back over the road as they waved goodbye 🥲

Thank you to @penguinukbooks for supporting us with this project to immerse children in the world of books and thank you to the hardworking staff and super supportive parents who made it possible for the group to come to visit us from Holmfirth JIN School.

In our next update we’ll tell you all about our plans for the autumn term 💛
